About Luke

Luke David Kellett is a documentary photographer born in England, now based in Australia. His large-scale projects have been acquired by major institutions, including This City Speaks to Me (State Library of Victoria, 2011) and Newcastle (State Library of NSW, 2021). He has exhibited at the State Library of Victoria, Newcastle Museum, and Newcastle Art Gallery, where he co-curated We Can Be Heroes (2021), a celebration of Australian music photography. In 2024 his work Newcastle was published by GOST books in the UK. He continues to work on long term documentary projects that capture different parts of Australian life.

Awards: 

  • 2011 - Winner Melbourne design awards - Photography for design for photographic work with the Newcastle Museum. 

  • 2013 - Winner - Museum Australia Multimedia and Publications Awards (MAPDA), Multimedia category for the toys exhibition campaign.

  • 2015 - Finalist - Museum Australia Multimedia and Publications Awards (MAPDA), Exhibition Catalogue (Small) - Photographic campaign.  

  • 2016 - Winner Highly commended - Museum Australia Multimedia and Publications Awards (MAPDA), Multimedia category - This is Not Art Festival promotion.

  • 2024 - Winner Merit Award - AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) - photography for album artwork (Emily Barker)

  • 2014 - Newcastle Museum - “Newcastle Earthquake” portrait exhibition 25 year anniversary (Solo exhibition)

  • 2015 - State Library of Victoria - “Bohemian Melbourne” exhibition - Melbourne (Joint exhibition).
